The procedures are not well standardized and their effectiveness is not yet proven. Prolotherapy is an older treatment in which a sugar solution is injected into joints. Any of these may help streamline or define trials for potential new treatments. Unlike most rheumatologic diseases, no effective disease-modifying medications have been identified for OA.

It is a truncated recombinant human FGF-18 protein thought to induce chondrocyte proliferation and increased extra-cellular matrix (ECM) production, with the potential of promoting cartilage growth and repair. Although no study is perfect, our study identified that at 1 year post injection there was no cellular therapy that was more effective than CSI for knee OA. In addition, the study demonstrates in a large cohort the relative safety of these cellular procedures without evidence of severe AEs.

2. Fasinumab
Fasinumab is another monoclonal antibody that targets NGF to alleviate osteoarthritis pain. Similar to tanezumab, fasinumab works by inhibiting the activity of NGF, thereby reducing pain and inflammation in the affected joints. Studies have shown that fasinumab can provide significant pain relief in patients with osteoarthritis.
3. CR845
CR845 is a non-opioid analgesic that targets the kappa opioid receptor in the central nervous system to relieve pain. It has shown potential in managing chronic pain conditions, including osteoarthritis. CR845 works by modulating pain signals in the brain, leading to decreased pain perception in individuals with osteoarthritis.
